with BITCH HELL's launch being pretty much a success, i've been trying to figure out what game project i'm gonna tackle next. i've written a bunch of notes, pros and cons on the projects sitting on my backburner to try and help me pick one. no luck so far, but i'm hoping to have a blog post about whichever project i go with in the next week or two. fingers crossed!
but anyways here's some random shit i did this week:
- i hung out with a high-school friend i haven't seen in a while. it was really nice, i missed her.
- i spent multiple hours last tuesday trying to find an unmodified, non-steam version of the Just Cause 2 demo from 2010. no luck. i even tried to crack open the archive files that were distributed back in 2010 for the Steam version of the demo, but i gave up after getting too frustrated. i just wanna play the JC2 demo again :(
- i replayed Half-Life: Blue Shift front to back, twice. no idea why, i just felt the urge to do it. verdict: still a very very good singleplayer Half-Life experience. as Noah Caldwell-Gervais said, it plays like an extremely professional fan-made campaign rather than an official expansion.
- i played the Project Borealis: Prologue demo today. verdict: meh, not my thing.
- i built a prototype of the co-op menu and server browser for the Quake engine game NZ:P. pull request here.
- the WifeSoft Gameware website is finally updated to celebrate BITCH HELL's launch, along with a fancy "about" page showing polaroids of me and evie.
- last week i made a lot of progress reimplementing working netplay into Rise of The Triad, in a sourceport i have christened "NetROTT". unfortunately it doesn't actually... work, yet, but it's close! i promise!
- i turned a blog post of mine into a Decker zine thing.
and some TODOs:
- figure out more cool stuff to make with Decker.
- get on top of my next project, whatever it ends up being.
- finish the NZ:P menus so the pull request can go through.
- continue working on the design documents for my game prototypes.
- explicitly take time out to watch more movies and play more games i haven't seen or played before. i wanna try and make sure i'm getting new ideas and cool imagery put into my head. gotta get new inspirations somehow :P
- figure out a more creative way to structure these .plan updates.
as always feel free to email me if you wanna leave some thoughts or say hi!
